Paris Saint-Germain have etched their name in history as the first French club to lift the UEFA Super Cup, following a stunning comeback against Tottenham Hotspur in Udine on Wednesday, 13 August 2025.

The match took place at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, drawing an attendance of around 21,000 fans.

Spurs under new manager Thomas Frank stunned PSG early with Micky van de Ven scoring the opener in the 39th minute from a set-piece rebound. Cristine Romero extended the lead with a powerful header, doubling Tottenham’s advantage shortly after halftime in the 48th minute.

However, substitute Lee Kang-In breathed new life into PSG with a stunning strike from outside the box in the 85th minute. Goncalo Ramos then delivered a dramatic equalizer in 90’+4′ stoppage time, meeting Ousmane Dembele’s cross with a diving header.

With no extra time in the Super Cup rules, the match moved straight to penalties. Tottenham faltered with misses from Van de Ven and Mathys Tel, while PSG held their nerve. Nuno Mendes calmly converted the decisive spot-kick to seal a 4-3 shootout win for PSG.

The victory marks PSG’s first UEFA Super Cup title, capping a stellar European season that included winning the Champions League. The results underscore the club’s resilience under pressure, showing that even when not at their physical peak, they can deliver in crunch moments.

For Tottenham, it’s heartbreaking to miss just months after ending their 17-year trophy drought with Europa League success. Their Super Cup hopes slipped away in the final minutes.

PSG’s comeback in Udine will be remembered as one of the most remarkable Super Cup finals yet, a fitting start to their European title defence.
